Gemma O’Doherty arrested during livestream in Bray

Gardaí arrested Gemma O’Doherty today while she was livestreaming in Bray. The former journalist and failed politician had placed banners overlooking a motorway when gardaí appeared. They told her the banners would have to be removed and took the banners down while O’Doherty berated them, calling them “traitors”.

Public order

When a garda asked O’Doherty for her name and address she refused. And in the video live-streamed to her followers the garda can be seen arresting the far-right activist.

The Garda Press Office told The Beacon that gardaí “were alerted to an incident on the N11 flyover footbridge at Kilmacanogue” at roughly 4pm today as a result of complaints from members of the public. Gardaí said they visited the scene and arrested a woman under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

She is currently being held in Bray garda station.

Social media

In recent weeks O’Doherty has been banned from Twitter. Her personal account has been permanently suspended by the company for “after repeated violations of the Twitter Rules including violations of our Abusive Behaviour & Sensitive Media policies”. Twitter also removed the account of her Anti-Corruption Ireland (ACI) organisation.

A representative for Twitter told The Beacon that it was removed for “repeated violations of the Twitter rules” and due to “violations of our spam and platform manipulation policies”.

O’Doherty has also been dropped as a client by KRW Law who up until recently were representing her in a number of legal actions. In a notice filed with the High Court last week to come off the record as her representatives, the firm describes her as “Bankrupt”.
